with the 3 stooges
The triad upon which psychology is based is as amusing as the three stooges playing 3 joker poker. Sigmud Fraud proposed the id, ego, super-ego model. Although the 3 stooges are more intelligent. This is a top down view of the brain, which only gives a superficial explanation, a view from outside the skull of what is happening inside the skull. I will use the word top down/bottom up because that way the words “mean what I intend them to mean, no more, no less.” – Mad Hatter – Alice in Wonderland. Feel free to substitute reductionist/constructionist, individuation/connectedness, Yang/Yin, serial/parallel, binary/Boolean, local forcing/spacial forcing or whatever terms you feel comfortable with in describing the left and right mind. They are all just different words used to describe the same thing. (the word is not the concept) These words are incredibly squishy making this somewhat like nailing jello to the wall. But I’ll give it a shot and try to shoehorn these words into my understanding of the mind.

The Id is bottom up, the right mind.
The Ego is top down, left mind.
The Super Ego is the cultural/social/religious/educational imprinting on the Ego during the “critical age” supplemented by learning that is consistent with the imprinting.
This decision tree (algorithm) can be destroyed, by a traumatic event, such as a wife reading in the morning paper that her husband has been caught in the No Tell Motel with a dead prostitute, (or a live boy) after worrying about where he is all night. (The top down and bottom up algorithms are inconsistent) consistent, inconsistent, not-consistent, and not-inconsistent being the 4 possibilities.
This, then would be the “collapse of ego”, where the person’s core belief system is shattered, forcing them to think for themselves in what has suddenly become a confusing world. This “new” reality would naturally extend into society, as the collective belief system collapses. (the ubermind?)
But this is only my opinion, and opinions are like assholes, everybody’s got one.
